I have both an xbox 360 and a PS3 but I have limited shelf space, recently I have been unhooking and re hooking up either console depending on what I want to play, this obviously is a pain and I was wondering if it would kill or be that bad for my 360 to have the PS3 on top of it. I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question and I appreciate all your feedback

yea the 360 needs all the air flow it can get, make it work, i also wouldnt suggest unhooking and rehooking everytime
buy the cables you need to make it work. if you have that much invested in those two consoles what is some cables?

You might ruin both consoles if you stack them on top of each other. The 360 will pass its RROD disease to the PS3.
Having 2 consoles that close will definitely cause them to overheat.
Wasting a $1000 worth of electronics is no fun dude.

Yeah the Video connector and power connect wasn't built for constant engaging and disengaging. If you look at individual component specs for any electrical component it will tell you an expected life. For a switch it may be 1,000 operations, for a plug, it maybe 1,000 disengage/engage. The connectors back there wasn't made for that many.

I ended up sticking it on the floor, but doesn't having it sit on carpet make it overheat or is bad for it?

Dude dont have it sit on the carpet. It will overheat for sure that way. Having it vertical is fine it will not scratch your disc at all. Iv had my PS3 and elite vertical since it came out and its been flawless.

Yeah Carpet is bad, it will prevent air movement on underside.- Notice how the case is designed warped on underside to provide air flow.
vertical will scratch your disc sooner or later. In CrisKan's case- later.

The 360 only scratches the disc if you have it playing in vertical then change it to horizontal. Look it up on youtube.
I dont know about the PS3 tho. But I dont care enough or is dumb enough to try it.
Its been over a year and so far no scratches on any game of mine...

I stuck a couple of old ps2 game cases on the carpet for the 360 to sit on, should that prevent the overheating? if not what should I set it on?

Why don't you just buy a $30 cabinet (open in front and back, not closed) from Wal Mart to put both systems on it? I got both, what I do. Sure you can find room.

I liked vertical too, until it tipped over and scratched up and ruined my backup, would have been p-ed if it was a $60 original!!
