Hi, i've been using Verbatim CD-R's which were made in india, i've read many post regarding Verbatim CD-R and DVD+R disc and that if there not made in Japan they are inferior. Are the one's made in China any good or should i avoid them, it seems impossible to find the one's made in Japan, what is the best alternative if this is the case, would really like to know the truth about good and bad CD-R's etc, thanks for your help.

Almost the only CD-R manufacturer left in Japan is Taiyo Yuden. They make excellent CD-R discs, but the dye is not as stable over time due to its chemistry as the dyes used by almost other manufacturers. Verbatim CD-Rs from Taiwan (CMC) or from India (Moser Baer) use the more stable phthalocyanine dye and are also very good choices for recording. DVD production is so much different from CD-R production that one cannot assume that a good CD-R manufacturer is necessarily a good DVD manufacturer. Taiyo Yuden DVD+R/-R dyes are on a par with all other manufacturers' dyes in terms of quality (Fuji's Oxonol dye may have an advantage, but the last I heard was that no one is bothering to do the 10-month testing required to get good data because: 1) it's so expensive; 2) prices don't allow the expense to be covered; and 3) consumers don't care enough about longevity to pay the difference in price.) The short answer is--Verbatim discs made in India and Taiwan should be equivalent to anything made in Japan and will probably last longer. The same cannot be said for DVD media.
Hi, thanks for the info, i did change my made in China CD-R's for super azo made in india which i've used before with no problems, none of my local stores can get super azo anymore though. As for keeping with the made in India one's, these to are now hard to find, even on amazon uk, as many reviews left by ardent Verbatim user's have found out to there dismay and have given the made in China CD-R's bad reviews. The main one's being sold are the made in China with extra layer protection, although these are being made in india as well if you can find them. As for DVD i use Verbatim DVD+R advanced azo made in india but these to are getting harder to find, but to be honest i don't know which are best, i just assumed that if they were made by a branded name company that they should be good.
