i have xp on my gaming computer which specs are 3.2 ghz, 2gb ram, 8600 gt 512mb, i understand in vista u need more power to run games lyk crysis and gears ect. but you can use flash drive as ram, will i be able to play the games even better or even just the same if i upgrade to vista and use a few flash drives?
I play crysis on my Vista Ultimate machine with a Q6600 @ 2.4 ghz, 2 gigs of ram and a 8600GT...I'm sure you'll be fine the way it is.
hey again i upgraded and guess what, it was a disataster, after spending ages upgradingdrivers everything was good until i loaded crysis, even on the bit that says ea games, crytek, nvidia it was stuttering and was even worst in gameplay
Hey Grievsa, Just curious but did you try the flash drive? You can use them for Ready Boost although I'm not sure that it would make a difference in your situation but it couldn't hurt to try? Also, Vista will need atleast 1 gig of ram just to maintain itself however I see that LOCO reports he has 2 gigs and his game runs fine. ?? I use 3 gig but I'm not gaming on mine mostly conversions and it seems to be plenty. But maybe your just underpowered? Let us know if that flash trick works!
Hey is it really possible to use flash drives as ram? So if i have only 1gb of ram and has a 2gb flash drive i can make my ram to 3gb?
Not exactly Ditri, Vista offers a ReadyBoost option with flash drives. It's suppose to enhance PC acceleration. I've heard some say it helps and others said they never noticed a difference. But in this case, with gaming, I was curious to see if he thought it helped.
yeah i actually bought 1, a 4GB patriot lol then used it for 2 hours then reinstalled xp lolback to normal but msn wont work
i've done a little reading on readyboost and i've encountered the paragraph below. so i guess you need to use a high speed flash drive to use it and be able to see the difference in performance. "Some universal serial bus (USB) storage devices contain both slow and fast flash memory, and Windows can only use fast flash memory to speed up your computer. Hey Ditri, Good info with that link! I was unaware that the speed of the drive made a difference in this situation. Apparently all flash devices are not created equal. Who knew? Good looking out!
I used to have Vista Home Premium (It came with the PC - I've now 'downgraded' to XP Pro) and i tried using a 2GB flash drive for ready-boost just to see the difference, and to be honest, i noticed absolutely none whilst gaming or otherwise. I presume it's just another one of those gimmicks to try and force Vista at you...
readyboost is NOT a replacement for ram. it will show improvement if you have 1gig of ram or less. if you have 2+gigs, it'll barely show.
