Maxtor exteral hard drive

    My Maxtor external hard drive was working perfect and now my pc will not reconise it,
    I have windows 2000 I have tried changeing the lead to no avail.

    Anyone got the fix if not I am in a fix.

    Hey Phibsboro,
    I'm afraid I don't have a nice answer. I had the same thing happen to one of my Western Digital drives awhile back. And after talking back and forth with tech support, answering questions like "Was there a power outage?". I found that EVEN though they say its PnP. They really aren't hot swappable. And you REALLY need to use safely remove hardward and allow for spindown time before shutting it off. Or they will crash. So the only option was to recover data and reformat. Sorry I know that's not really the "fix" you were probably hoping for. However, there is a similar thread here
