Im a newbie when it comes to installing hardware. My sitsuation is at the moment, ive just bought a 2nd dvd writer Samsung SH-S162L and had it installed as the secondary rom drive and my old dvd writer Lite-on is still the main rom as it always has been. Now, the new dvd writer constantly has errors when burning and ive been advised by changing the roms around and having the Samsung as the Main dvd writer and the Lite-on as the secondary, which could solve burning problems for the Samsung. My questions are : How can i do this? Is it a matter of swapping the IDE cords over and re-booting pc? Do i have to change anything in BIOS settings or would it recognize this after re-booting, that i have changed roms around? Im ready to throw this Samsung Writer away but im trying this 1st and if fails, i'll be buying another writer. Any help would be appreciated.
What discs and programs are you using? (and for the record, yes I would set any DVDRW as primary master) - if the two optical drives are plugged into different ports on the motherboard, then both drives can be made master, primary master and secondary master. If you only have one port, or you have other devices on the second such as a hard disk drive, then you should make the DVDRW Master, and the other drive slave - instructions for the correct jumper location will be printed on the top of the drive.
The program or brand of disc isnt the problem. When i did my research into "Samsung SH-S162L" and read forum after forum and people who own this model would state dozens of programs and different brand of discs that they were using with no success. For the record both of my rom drives are DVD RW drives so it wouldnt matter which one was primary master. So what i did was, i went straight down to the local pc store and bought myself a cheap Asus DVD RW drive and replaced the "Samsung SH-S162L" with it and guess what? FLAWLESS!!!! It burns like an absolute maniac! Sheer Brilliance! Thanks for your help anyway.
For future reference, you can change a drive between Master / Slave by changing the position of the jumper on the drives, next to the IDE slot.
Thank you BurnCK, maybe if i got your message 1st i would of tried it but i wasnt sure so i bought another dvd rw writer and worked it out anyway. Thanks for your help though.
That's actually what I wrote in my first post as well, perhaps I wasn't clear enough about how to do it.
