I have an old (I'm assuming..) bin/cue image I'm trying to burn on either of my two fairly new (less than a year old) Samsung DVD drives (one SATA- one IDE). Several times now on either.. I'm getting coasters in that they fail verify after burning. I'm burning with ImgBurn (first-time user) and I "play" with the image using UltraISO. I know from the past that there are small utilities out there that can verify the integrity of burned CD-Rs (not generate or compare against a checksum) by scanning the disc and making sure each sector is "readable". What I'm wondering is.. is there any software that can do the same to an image file.. before it's burned? UltraISO has the ability to generate checksums but I don't think it can actually scan an image for file integrity. Running any kind of mock burn in my burning software probably wouldn't tell me either, as whenever I DO burn the image.. it burns just fine but fails the resulting check. This has happened a few times in the past as well on other CD & DVD images of varying formats (.iso.. .cue.. alchol images). I thought that one writer might be screwing up physically.. which is why today I tried the same image on both, and both verifies failed.. so it shouldn't be hardware. Another strange thing is that this has only seemed to happen since I switched from my OEM Nero (that came with my drives) to ImgBurn (format in between.. so not ASPI issue). Mind you.. I know that ImgBurn is a well developed program and should be able to handle my two newer drives fine though (Samsung SH-S182M & SH-S203N). Thanks to all for your time and attention.
Hi, Glad to help. Remember google is always your friend, so always try to "google" your answers before posting here. Still if you still havent been able to clear your question I will try to clear it up for you. As you said there is a program that can scan a CD sector by sector and tell you how readble it is based on the amount of C1 errors on it, the maximum amount of C1 errors is defined by an standard, you can google more on that or look in http://www.cdfreaks.com you can check this kind of errors with Nero CD/DVD speed. Now you cannot do that to an image on your HDD, the image just consist of data, and if you are having problems with it is probbably just the file you are trying to burn and not your burner, but it is important to determine if you are having this problem only with this image, or with every other file..in that case the problems points to other issues. So my recomendation is to check C1 errors on your CD's with nero CD/DVD speed, google more about it. If you cant find any information I will gladly help again.
