I have a western digital my book essential edition 320gb external hard drive and it has been giving me problems lately. When I plug in the usb cord it says in the tool bar that it is installed and ready to use but when i look in my computer it is no where to be found and then a few seconds later my whole computer freezes up and has to be restarted. My hard drive works fine on my computer at work so I know there has to be something wrong with my computer. Thanks.

I would also like to add that other usb devices work fine in the usb port that I use for the hard drive.

I have vaguely the same problem. I just got a used Cavalry CAUE37160. Once I plug it into my computer, my computer recognizes that it is there and installs it, but I cannot find anyway to access it. I have visited Cavalraystorage.com, their website, and searched to try and find out what is the problem. I have also attempted to use TWEAKUI, but I don't understand what that is supposed to do.

I am also seeking help with my seagate free agent pro 750gb HDD. I have only had this drive for about 4 months. I tried everything and it also will say that the computer has connected to it but it will not come up with a drive letter in my computer. I don't know what else to do. I have backed up everything that I own on this drive. I have filled it all the way to about 7gb remaining now I have nothing because I can no longer access the drive. I am actively searching for answers but all seagate can tell me is to send it in for replacement or try formatting the drive. They don't understand that I will have lost all of my movies, music, books, pictures, important documents, etc. Can any one help me?

I fixed my external hard drive by using acronis to partition the drive and now it works, but I am not sure how many of you this will help.
