Q) I backed up a game and the PS2 says "Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc" against a red mist.

A) You need some type of modification for your PS2.

Ok, I already have a modchip installed but I still get this message, any ideas?

Is it possible to have more than one modification on your ps2 for backup games?

you already got a modchip installed and its still the same? try using another disc... or maybe your lens is dirty thats why it cant read any games... try cleaning it with alcohol and a Q-tip!
