    Small point but annoying !

When I need to open a file in an application I used to get the files listed by name, size etc. Now this has gone . The files appear in random order and I have to click an icon to restore these headings.

Anyone know how I can get back to the format which automatically shows the headings ?

    Thanks

10 years on.. control panel > folder options > default view (choose one)

Or from the folder menu.. view > list (or details or large icons or small icone.. lots of options)

    Many thanks for fast response.

I tried adjusting these settings some time ago without success. I'll have another shot at it.
    Thanks again.

Very frustrating . I have (I think!) found the place to make the folder settings I want. It's the format designated "Detail" --- showing the contents of the folder with name, size etc for each file.

What I find is that in some applications(eg MS Word ) when I click Open I do get a folder showing the "detail" format as required but alas most of my folders do not open in that form.

So the question now is :why are some folders OK, others not ?

    Thanks
