Does v10's (SCPH-5001) need modchips/slidecards?

i just got the newest version of ps2, and it says it plays dvd+-rw....so that means a copied game will play on the ps2 without a modchip right?

It just means the laser can read these types of media, so for example you could watch home movies you've burned onto a rewritable dvd.
You still need a modchip or another method to play backups.
