I basically purchased a whisper fan max, and I installed it correctly it turns on the fan works fine and so does the switch however when I attempt to eject my dvd drive it doesn't eject and on screen it says "open tray" I push the eject nothing happens and then all of a sudden it displayed "reading" I push eject again and it then shows "close tray", this problem only occurred after I installed the whisper fan max into my system please tell me how I can fix my console help is much appreciated.

Try taking your shell back off your 360 and then turn it on and see if it opens. If not then take the Whisper fans off and put the original fans back and see what happens. I've never heard of the Whisper fans messing with the drives in the 360s.

Well this is what I have done, I basically took out the whisper fan max and put the orginal fan back in and I still get the same error this is strange considering that before the whisper fan max was placed in the console everything was working fine. However this is the second whisper fan max that I have bought as the first one shorted out on me as the wire they supplied started to burn up inside the console I was lucky enough to remove the wire before the burn reached the dvd drive, but that was about 4 months ago and the console seemed to work fine after that. So if anyone knows how I can get my dvd tray to eject again please let me know thanks.

Please forgive me for double posting as I wasnt sure on how to edit my previous message.

I just manually ejected my drive there was a backup of burnout inside it, and basically my console will not sync with my controller and the 360 light will not stop flashing continously also I still have the problem with my disc tray.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like another short. Something went wrong with your new fan. Did you use a grounding clip while you had your case open? Or something not properly grounded on your fan? Doesn't sound good.

I installed the fan as directed in the instructions I got a strange feeling it could be the actual dvd drive because the console recgonizes when I push eject its just that the drive isnt ejecting.

I've not tried swapping the fans before and I can't be absolutely sure but it really sounds like some sort of overload has taken place. Your certain there was no problem with the drive prior to you swapping out the fans? Do you have a multimeter to maybe run some tests?

Ive also noticed a burn mark on a pin at the back of the dvd drive where the power goes into.

I'm sorry, again I'm not completely familiar with the fan swapping. However, did you hard solder to the mobo power supply or is it a harness that taps into the dvd drive power?

Its that standard plug that goes into the back of the drive, the one which was supplied with the first whisper fan max that I bought shorted and started to burn up from the power plug which goes into the back of the dvd drive and which has now left a mark on a pin in the back of the dvd drive.

Ok, so the pin has been that way since your first fan? Without incident your drive has been working? Until now when you've installed yet another fan? Is it the same type of fan? And you connected it with a harness using the dvd drive power supply?

Yes the pin has been like this since my first fan.

Yes without this incident my drive has been working, until I installed this new fan,

The power to the dvd drive was connected using the standard power cable that they gave me with the 360.

Well, I've been looking over at Xbox Scene and it seems several people recommended using the mobo power supply and not the dvd drive. But as far as a reason for this I'm not sure. Near as I can tell no one has mentioned this problem...? But lightning striking twice in your situation? I'm baffeled. Sorry I don't have more info for you. I still think it sounds like something shorted out though. And if you have a multimeter I think you should run some tests for sure and maybe somebody else who's more familiar with this modification can help you out.
