Windows xp Key

Dont know if this is the right place to ask this but here gos

Hey i just got this very good computer from my friend but the only problem is that the windows xp key have expired and my friend cant seem to find it anywhere, he said that its a pirated copy. My question to you guys is that if i decide to buy another windows xp os cd do i need the old xp cd to install it? What should i do? the computer is just sitting here collecting dust!

if you cant buy a copy of xp dirt cheap,get a freind with xp to burn yu a copy and {borrow}their key.

if i do that will that key work for a second user? what about when the computer have to be updated
