Hi, bit of a newbie on afterdawn but have had a few posts on here and if im in the wrong place just please move me and let me know where i should go, thanks, My problem is this, ive got written permission to try and disassemble a comercial program, ie, a game to be precise as part of a project at college. What one of my tasks is, is to replace one .exe file, with another .exe file of the same name, the problem is, its in a .bin file, setup-1. now i know a bin file is just a image file similar to an iso image, but ive tried everthing to view the files in the .bin file, winiso was recomended so i used the viewer, no luck, it took two minutes for a status bar to move to the end then said format invalid or corrupt, ive tried magic iso, power iso ive even got desperate and tried notepad, no joy, i know file isnt corrupt and certain its complete because it extracts to the folder when installing, am i on a wild goose chase, and is it even possible to do? tyhank, im nearly bold with pulling my hair out, oh p.s could it be write protected, and if so how can i remove it? Remember this isnt hacking because ive got permission, cheers, matt.
whenever i want to see the contents of a .bin or .iso i use DaemonTools. what daemontools deos it creates a virtual drive and lets you mount .bin, .cue, .iso files to them. once you mount the image, if it has an autorun feature it will try to run its contents if not then usually windows asks you what you want to do. if nothing happens go to 'my computer' and right click on the virtual drive and hit 'explore'...and thats it...
deamon tools is saying unable to mount, invalid format, its a .bin file and ive clicked all the right boxes about file allocation, winiso is the same, will extract then say its ivalid, even though its .bin file. ive even tried converting to iso, the same, converts then says its invalid. ive heard somewher it should have a .cue file, but where can i find it???
it usually comes with the bin file and it is required to run the contents of the bin file....man i totally forgot about the cue file's relation to the bin...im not sure if you can still see whats inside the bin file without the cue file...i guess just try and find the right program to do so...ill look into myself....
