Installing Windows on an external hardrive

    im using a hp pavilion dv2000 laptop running vista ultimate

    and i have 150gb external western digital hardrive
    its recognized by my pc as a boot device theres just nothing there to boot

    i was contemplating windows/linux i dont know wich yet
    but how would i got about installing windows on my external hd
    it would be windows xp pro with sp3

    well if your pc recognizes the external drive then i guess you could put in the install disk but instead of selecting your main drive, select the external drive instead...Then you got to go into the F8 menu (pressing F8 when your pc is tryiong to boot...) to change the location where your pc boots from...
