Hi everyone, After reading plenty of threads on HTPC, I have decided to create a new thread that consists solely of peoples different HTPC configurations. Please don't ask questions in here, so we can keep the thread solely for configurations. Ok well I'll get the ball rolling. TV - Samsung 50" Plasma , PS50P91FDX (Full HD) PC - Dell Inspiron 1720, Vista. With Blu Ray drive. Video Card - Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT 250mb dedicated memory (Discrete) Audio - Integrated Audigy advanced HD audio Connection is Video - (PC)VGA out to (TV)VGA in Audio - 3.5mm stereo Jack to same. (but wanting to go better) With this configuration I am able to get 1920x1080 resolution, and also get the Nvidia advanced options for the Plasma, as well as the Notebook. Overall, I am happy with this config, but i would like to do better with audio. Nicko
My setup changes frequently, but currently I have: Primary Monitor: Sceptre X37, 37" 1920x1080, LCD PC 1: AMD 64 3000+, 1GB RAM, running 64 Studio 2.0 Linux (64 Studio is a special distribution of Debian designed for media production. Version 2.0 is based on Debian Etch) Video 1: Nvidia GeForce 3? something like that? Audio 1: Edirol FA-101, Mackie Onyx 1620 tape input (Mogami cabling) PC2: AMD 64 x2 ummm i think it's like 2 Ghz or so... 2 GB RAM, running Windoze XP Video 2: GeForce 7950 (i tink) with 320 MB Audio 2: Mackie Onyx 1620 Firewire (it's the same board as above) Connections: I'm using a VGA cable for PC1, DVI-D->HDMI for PC2. For my screen, the digital connection definitely has an edge. The VGA connection has ever-so-slight crosstalk. However, it should be noted that I am just using the VGA cable that came with my teevee. I expect that if I upgraded to good studio cable, that the crosstalk would be diminished to negligible levels. Incidentally, I've tried plugging my laptop into the same teevee with the same VGA cable, and while I get full resolution, it looks terrible. there are noticeble wavy lines through the screen and the colors bleed badly.
Ok I have a good question for you folks. I thought I could get this working but it has thus far been an epic fail. Here is my situation: Toshiba Regza 52HL167 Bought to hook up to a SCADA system (display the system) Thought I would just run a VGA to the TV and would be golden. SCADA system runs at 1280 x 1024 though and that is too high for the TV I have tried: Changing the resolution of the display computer (Neoware device). This resulted in a poor display on both the TV and local monitor when zoomed out enough to view the entire system. Using one of them converters we had in the back room to send the signal over S-Video/Coax cable. The display came through, but the quality was unbelievable. Looked kind of like you were viewing through a coke bottle, as well as having a nice little whitish line that rolls. Needless to say the numbers are not legible on the screen. My next though was to try one of them VGA to HDMI converter boxes but am uncertain if that will work. So with that I am having a hard time sinking another $150-200 into this. From where I stand now it appears that I should cut my losses and try to go the projector route. Thought I would try a last ditch effort to see if anyone here had a genius idea. Thanks all!
