Ok I have tried figuring out what is causing all my problems playing DVD or games played from a DVD. Every time I play a DVD the movie or game runs pretty smoothly just a little glitchy very minute actually, but the sound is really distorted and scratchy. So while trying to reinstall audio drivers thinking that was my problem, I restarted my computer and now I have an error message that my ATI graphics have failed. I went to application recovery tried reinstalling ATI but still with no luck.
I will continue to try and find the issue. I really don't want to have to restore. Thanks!!!

I thought I might add that I can mount games using Daemon tools and not have any issue with it. I believe the problem is directly related to my dvd drive or something like that.

    Thanks again

First thing you should do is check the mounting of your graphics card.. make sure it is seating properly.. ATI cards are quite heavy and have a bad habit of sagging down in the slot over time if the screw isn't tight ;)

Then try reinstalling the graphics driver.. some games can mess up graphics drivers but the reasons aren't clear..

Finally try reinstalling the directX nonsense...

If none of that works then unfortunately the hardware is suspect.

I have an ATI card fitted now which refuses to 3d render properly (which may be the problem with yours as it seems to work otherwise) with the windows drivers, though it runs fine under the AIGLX linux drivers.. work that one out ;) I can't and there's not much point because it meant it was free and I don't have any use for M$ software

What kind of processor do you have in your system? You could be lagging the system with some graphic intensive movies. Also, why don't you just use the on board graphics card for video. The re-install the drivers and software for the ATI card?

I have reinstalled the drivers. I have run Pc Doctor 5, and it says that there are no errors. Like I said Graphics and sound are awesome when played from the hard drive. It is only when I use my Dvd drive that video and game play becomes choppy.. I have not received the ATI graphics failed error message again. I just really want to play Myst and it is just to choppy.

have you updated your video driver from ati & not ms as i have found problems with md video drivers? is it possible it is the dvd drive that is causing the problem? have you tried system restore to before you updated the audio driver?

I am so sorry for the vague reply. Actually it only temporarily solved the issue. I system restored, my dvd was not even recognizable so I then uninstalled and reinstalled. It worked pretty good until I went to backup a movie, and now it is doing the same thing again. I am really unsure what the issue is.
