    Hi everyone,
I bought a sony bravia back from the UK to NZ .
In the UK i believe they broadcast in mpeg2 format...whereas in NZ they broadcast in mpeg4.I can get all analogue channels and on the digital i can get all the channels but they do not broadcast. The channels are all loaded on the EPG but dont show.
Im wondering if there is anything out there that i can plug into the tv that would convert the m-peg4 into the m-peg 2. Please help
    Thanks Matt

mpeg 4 to an mpeg2? That's rather weird you'd be downgrading the quality by doing so... This might be more of a software problem than anything else; wait before I put my foot into mouth.

Do you have any devices between your cable line going to you TV; such as converter or a Tivo? Are you using a TV tuner card and are you going through a computer? Finally, is this over the air digital or something else?

If going through a computer your options open up a lot.Odds are you can probably do this conversion with something like Nero, or some freeware programs it can be done pretty easily with very little hassle. If using a Tivo then in for a little bit more fun. If going straight through to the TV... need a converter box for the HD stuff; not right now of an easy workaround for this, pretty sure going through a computer would make this easier...

Now you say the channels are loaded, but don't show for digital... either you don't have a TV that can handle HD digital, or an HD antenna as far as I can figure off the top of my head. Does this TV say HD compatible or compliant? IF compliant you ought to be okay the problem may likely be something else... if compatible then you could be in for some serious trouble! I few years back, I think two years, there was a scramble to get LCD and plasma TV's to be HD ready. Unfortunately what was done during this period was that the box said on it was 'compatible'. This; can also mean its missing a necessary component, however real easy way that has saved me and my friends some time is to look at the ports. If you have just one hdmi port you are in the cringe area of a possible clone aka a compatible. If you have more than one its a very good bet you've got a winner!

Going through a computer might, key word, be the easiest way, if you've tried a converter or a Tivo give this a try, its easy enough to set up. Just make sure you got a TV tuner card that can handle doing an HD signal, normally from what I've heard it, key words in some cases, ought to handle it automatically thus preventing some serious triple H (Headaches, hassles, and hangovers.) thus leaving you to enjoy. Hope this helps. :)
