    Hi guys

Apologies for taking this back to a way basic level but it might help others who knows. When I go to check my ports in device manager they are COM10, COM11, COM12 etc. How does this relate to COM1-4 on the loader?

Also, no luck with updating so far, stuck on 0%. Perhaps its not a null modem cable although it is the one which came with the box from WIzard Satellite. Is there any way it will not be a null modem cable and I need to order a new one?

    Thanks

    Hi
You will need 1 to 4 allocating in device manager for a successful transfer, I would not suspect your null cable at all yet.
Try deleting the high numbered ports,(unless you have anything important running from those ports) restart PC and see what Com port numbers are there then, if non or they are high again delete them again restart PC then add a new com port by going into 'Control Panel/Add new hardware'

    Hi,
Identify the COM port number that the cable is plugged into (this can be done in the device manager).

Once you indentify the COM number you are using (in device manager) right click on it and go to advanced .

In the advanced settings you can rename the COM number (ie) change COM11 to COM1 etc etc .

This will then let the software pick up the port you are using as you have changed the COM number to the given range (COM1 to COM4).

**Take note of any changes that you have made as you may need to change it back .

    Hope this helps.

I've deleted the ports from device manager. When I reboot they are still not there. I have added one using control panel and it appears as COM6 with a yellow warning explanation mark.

I've changed it to COM1 as suggested via properties. Its still yellow.

When I try to connect to the box the loader seems to recognise which port I am connected to - for example, if I call it COM1 via device manager then COM2, 3, 4 in the loader give an error (can't open serial port). If I call it COM2 then COM1, 3 and 4 give an error.

However still sticks at 0% and doesn't upload firmware.

    Maybe it is the lead?

    Hi
Try it on another PC as you obviously have problems on this one.

I wouldnt have deleted any ports ....just renaming a existing port would have been fine.

How many ports do you have showing now in device manager ?

On the ports that you have showing (with yellow excl) when you double click on them whats the device status (this shows in a little box when you double click )
    ?

The yellow question mark means the either the correct drivers arn't installed or the drivers cannot be found, by deleting the port it may have removed the driver.

run add new hardware wizard it will take you to the device that has the ? click on it and search for the drivers.

Also are you using just the null modem cable or usb adaptor also?

If you can get into the "drivers"tab on the same window when you double click on the port try and install the driver by pressing "update driver" if the driver is available then it will find it on the harddrive.

"The WIzard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed."

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it and understand this is not really a Starview or cable issue.

As I said earlier, try it on another PC ""with a 9 Pin Com port"" especially as you have just mentioned that you are using a USB port adaptor, These can be a right PITA to set up.

If you are using a USB adaptor you will have to install the driver that came with it before it will work.

If you dont have the driver you can get one here, http://www.gilsson.com/usb_drivers_download.htm

Also on the same website there is a step by step tutorial on how to install the driver and also how to configure your ports.

True the USB adaptor can be a pain in the arse but it deffinatley wont work until you install the driver.

When I plug the adapter in it says 'USB device not recognised, one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned'. If I try to install the drivers, The drivers don't install, I just get the message

Anyway, I've gone to another laptop, on this one it recognises the USB adapter on port 1, but still stays at 0%. This is with Box on standby and using GTROMSuper_709eBETA or GTROMSuper 800e.

Is there a special order of connecting and turning on the Box?

Is there any change that the cable sent with my BOx from WIzard Satellite is a normal serial lead and not a null modem lead? Why would they have included it if not?

Sorry mate - wasn't ignoring just stupidly assuming you were a mindreader ;-). The thing is I don't have access to another PC with a 9 pin COM port. All I could offer was the fact that I tried on a different laptop at least. I will try to get to a PC but don't know when I will be able to.
