About 9 out of 10 times on my Windows XP laptop, everytime I hit Start-> Turn Off Computer, the screen freezes for a while and explorer.exe crashes with the error message and restarts. After it restarts I can shutdown my computer fine. Anybody know whats wrong?

This is a shot in the dark. But have you tried exitiing all background processes (not Explorer) then try shutting down? One of the background processes might be conflicting.

No I haven't but I'll give it a try. Sometimes it happens right after I turn it on and turn it off with running only the internet.

I had a similar problem with a desktop windows xp computer. Everytime I try to turn off computer normally start/turnoff computer/shutdown, the computer would start the shutdown process than it would be reboot. The only way I could turn it off was with the power button. This went on for 2 weeks and I couldn't fix it.

I finally fix the problem by accident when I removed a 4in1 usb extension that was always connected to a usb port. That fix the problem. I would check and make sure nothing is connected to your usb ports or media card readers. Maybe it's something simple that is causing your problems.

It's a Laptop so there is nothing connected externally except the charger and Bluetooth Remote that is connected to the expresscard slot and charging. I'll take a look for that though, it could be when one of my external HDs or flash drives are connected.
