I had a soft moded box when it crashed (i.e. I was getting error 17)
I have decided to install Xecuter 3 CE hard mod on that box to reformat the drive and get things working again. My X3 works ok and I have managed to flash the BIOS but when I try to lunch a normal games from a DVD I'm getting error 13 (in unmoded mode) and I'm getting back to the bios menu in the moded mode. I have burned and ISO of autoinstaller deluxe 4.3 and tried booting with that but I get the same problem.

    Questions:

    1) should my Autoinstaller DVD ISO menu pop up in moded or modechip off mode despite of the HD status (i.e. if it is dead)
    2) I have tried to format the Drives on my (standart 28Gig drive) using the BIOS options and I was getting "error formating" (does it mean that my drive is dead?)
    3) should I try replacing a drive with some new lockable drive and formating it again? what would be the best next step?

    Thanks a lot,
    Cheers,
    Radek

is your hard drive constantly clicking? That's what happens to the drives when they go bad. They just constantly click and won't do much of anything else. You don't need a lockable drive if you're hardmodded. If your chip is turned on i'm sure you would see some other bios load after the green flubber screen. If i were you i would try a different hard drive and see if that will do anything. Make sure the chip is turned on or it won't read the aid disc.

Thanks for the advice I will pick up a new drive and give it a try. The drive is not clicking but it was ancient so it may have died of natural causes and I would not mind something bigger :) I may need to play with a different media for the aid CD as I don't think that worked for me well either :(

I'm stuck :(( I have picked up an external DVD burner and I have tried burning AID DVD using DVD-R, DVD+R, Nero 7.0 and DVD Decripter that came with AID distribution and no luck :(( I have tried putting in dummy 1gig files and burning at lowest speed possible x2, my DVD spins as if was reading something then hungs .... so I'm stuck on XBox Executer green screen. I have managed to FTP to the XBox to check my empty drives (I have reformated/or repartitioned my HD using X3 bios) Is there a way to set up something like at least dashboard from AID distribution rars using FTP only from my laptop?

you should check to see if your dvd is closed. Sometimes programs have a hard time closing the discs. Go into nero burning rom and press Ctrl + I to bring up the disc info window. It will tell you if the disc is closed or not and you'll have an option to close the disc. Once the disc is closed try again.

I checked that and from what I can tell the DVD is closed as "Available Capacity" is greeyed out and I have no option to close the DVD. You should be able to view the picture via the following url the embeding of the picture here doesn't seem to work in a preview.

I got it working !!! Thanks a lot for all the help C4RN1. It turned out there was no problem with my DVDs it was my HD all along. Even though the partitions were showing I was getting errors when I tried to FTP Evox directly via CXbox tool. I poped in a new drive and everything started working. Thanks again :)
