No DX10 in XP. You can enable some effects with hacks and such but DX10 is Vista only.

Is DX10 worth it? Not really. Not unless you have a HD4870 or GTX260 or GTX280.

Is Vista worth it? Will if you have programs that are made for 64bit they will run faster on Vista 64bit than on XP 32bit.

Looks like DX10 is actually just a con trick.. All that seems to be required is some hacking of the strings in a couple of .ini files and the games play just fine with XP.

This behaviour by M$ with the connivance of game makers is called "lock-in" and is a form of antitrust activity getting the consumer to buy something they have no reason to buy for some "apparent" benefit which does not exist.
Try some of his suggestions.. They work in an xp vm run on gentoo.

Yup.. bling and bloatware.. plus a load of drm (soon to be enabled when they think enough has been sold) It isn't an upgrade.. In the trade we call it a scam and spend lots of working days upgrading fista installations to XP or alternatives.

It's decent. It's not half as bad as most people make it out to be. The 64bit version really is good if you have 64Bit apps.
