Hi folks, apologies if this has been posted elsewhere but I am looking for some advice on how to delete all my music from my i-tunes library on my PC and keep my songs on my i-pod. can this be done at all? I have to do this as my computer doesn't have enough space on it for all of my songs I want to put on my i-pod. Any advice would be a big help thanks!
That is easy enough to do. However, you may be asking about concequences. They will be major if you ever plug your computer into that computer without removing itunes. Itunes is cyper-police in a box. It will assume you 'stole' the music and 'nuke' your ipod. Then you will not have any music. It does this by not allowing it to be accessed by a computer until the music area has been formatted. The computer is the only safe place for music, especially if you use itunes. Apple is not making ipods like they used to so new ones may die in a year or so. Again you will have no music unless it is on your computer
My advice would be to NEVER use iTunes again, honestly the program is garbage and you could easily use a much more light weight and hassle free program for your iPod like Winamp. With this you can simply right click any artist, album, or just a song and right click-hit send to and then select iPod. When you plug your iPod in you will not loose or gain anything except the stuff you want. If the music is not on your computer anymore it should just leave it alone on your iPod and yet you can still delete things off of your iPod. VERY simple and much faster and better for iPod music management. Also supports for much better library management so you can get much more easily all of your album art and correct album tags in. iTunes SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
Im sorry but the above responses are ludacris. You can click on the manually manage music check box in the iTunes software on your iPod's summary screen (The screen that comes up when you plug your iPod in). Once you do that, you will have to drag and drop songs onto the iPod in the iTunes software to copy music to it. I have been doing that for about 4 years, and my iPod has never been 'Nuked' or 'purged' or 'wiped out'. And I use limewire for obtaining music, and have never had a problem.
I have never tried that and it might work but honestly unless you are rich and your computer is crazy powerful I would still ditch iTunes because it's a huge memory hog and constantly ask you to update useless garbage. Winamp and MediaMonkey are much much better optons and if you are going to drag and drop files as marnold has said then you mind as well do it in Winamp.. Its the same thing only faster... but if you use podcast and video (I don't) then you may need to use iTunes... There is probaly easyier ways of doing it only I have not bothered to learn because I dont use them.
What you can do this by erasing the source of the music, but do not delete the album cover and text etc, just the music. After you do that when you open Itunes the songs title ect will be there but you'll get an ! , which means it cannot find the source. As long as you have the text(songs info) it will not erase the songs on your ipod. U should still be avaible to add songs to your itune and sync with your ipod with not problem.
