Sounds like some windows files are corrupt or windows is damaged in some way. A friend of mine had an issue exactly like this recently, he was very new to a computer and deleted some windows files and he got the same problem.

The solution that he used was to re-install windows. So if you have recovery disc's, re-install windows or if you have an Xp/Vist disc do the same and re-install.

Check the boot order in the BIOS. Maybe it got set to boot from the a: drive first. Also, what driver did you update?

Then there would have to be a floppy disk, in the drive, to get that error. If no floppy, in drive, it boots up.
