I checked on an earlier question and answer in the forum and found out about Nightlight.co.uk, so I went on this site and purchased a decoder and now I'm coping my protected videos on to DVD. Please note that I do this fo myself and not for profit, and I store my videos away incase I damage my discs. The quility that I get from this gizmo is watchable ie not to bad at all. So thanks to everyone who came up with ideas for me. Sandra N

Really happy that worked for you. You may find that the gizmo doesn't work on all tapes ;) We have 4 different ones in the shop as there was more than one variant of this system.

A little hint.. you can use avidemux on the resulting files to sharpen/soften and repair some of the more obvious vhs faults. Especially useful is being able to crop a few lines from the bottom of the picture to get rid of the sometimes annoying frame switching bar (flickery bit at the bottom of the picture) that you can get on older home recorded or ex-rental tapes.

    I'll leave you to experiment.
