Hi, I have just bought a windows vista laptop and would like to network it with a windows xp media pc, could someone help me please?
how can we help? lets start with your current network layout... hows it set up now? pc connects to router via ethernet cable? laptop connects to router via wifi? okay lets go! 1. share folders on pc with media in them. 2. map shared folders to laptop. 3. in media center add mapped folders to libaray. good to go!
hi, laptop & pc connect via wifi, my pc is windows xp media and the laptop is vista home premium. pretty dump question, because i'm not an expert in this field, 'how to network 2 pc's'. Also, by networking these pc's, would outlook be networked as well? or, is it better to download outlook 2007 on both pc's and then just add my email settings into them? would both pc's still download all messages from email servers? thank you for your help.
Hi Sukhtind! Outlook is separate thing, and youd need it installed on both pc and laptop. I'm going to assume you mean Outlook using a POP3 mail server, not an Microsoft Exchange server. This means that your mail is stored on their sever untill you download it. In your Email Account settings there will be an advanced option to 'leave messages on server' - enabling this (on both) means that both pc and laptop will see all messages as they are kept on ther server (the default setting removes them from the server once they are downloaded). unfortunately sent messages would be on the machine that sent them only. Simple Networking is more about having media and document files available to both machines, rather than a mainframe system (which is what is sounds like you are imagining) with remote terminals. I'm sorry if i was a bit simplistic in my last reply, each step may require more advice as you go along...
