I've ran vista premium on a amd 2800 with 512 mb ram, it ran slow. So I'm sure it'll run a little faster on 1gb, but the sweetspot would be 2gb. You need to get x32 vista, unless you actually have programs that require x64. I read about too many problems on the x64 version, and if you only have 1gb ram they will multiply.

Make sure you backup your xp version (you can use the free paragon drivebackup express) in case you install vista and you decide the computer isn't fast enough for it. Many people install vista then regret it, and by then it's a hassle to reinstall xp and all the updates etc.

x64 sucks in my opinion. Don't get it, especially if you have an Nvidia video card.
