This is an idea for those who don't want to download secure deleting applications or be caught doing so. Please note that applications can get the job done more efficiently.

To securely delete data, applications use overwriting methods and whatnots. How about if the overwriting method was implemented... manually! Simply by creating a file with a similar extension and name, and then moving it to the same folder as the file you want to delete, wouldn't this overwrite the data? I tried to recover the same file using Recuva, but nothing was detected.

My theory is that while perhaps the data isn't really "overwritten", it does not have a proper syntax and classification anymore, so recovery programs cannot detect it as a valid file which can be restored. If high-tech technology was used to directly read the hard disk etc etc etc, perhaps the data can be recovered, but that would hardly be plausible.

This is open to discussion and testing. What do you guys think?

to securely delete things, you can use ccleaner.

also some type of a disk wiper.
