Is the Creative Zen really that defective?

I've been through their forums and some customer feedback from online retailers. A lot of negative comments about the player dieing within days of normal usage, dead out of the box, breaking down, constant lockup, buttons not responding, white screen of death, ID3 tag read problems, refusing to charge, etc.

Is quality control or the player itself really that bad??? $100+ dollars isn't something I wanna gamble.

It looks pretty good 2.5in lcd screen, pretty good sound, expandable memory (albiet seperate), radio, voice recorder, lots of memory, good price tag.

My other alternative is the Sansa Fuze whose video playback on such a crappy screen resolution is unthinkable. Same price tag minus the video I guess.

In November of last year I bought a 4gb Zen for $140 from Newegg, it was having problems with the screen. However through Creative I filed an RMA and my replacement arived working perfectly. I have enjoyed this player more than my last creative, which was the zen micro 6gb; however I do miss the stereo radio recording feature.
