Hot swap is a good way to fry your HDD and your computers IDE channel or mother board!

That is not true. A lot of ppl and I did successfully. Maybe you are the only one.


Plus the tut from link above is hard for n00bs who will fry their xbox with that tut.

Man I don't know who you are but I'v been working on computers for over 20 years, and any time you go and pull cables out of the IDE channel and plug drives in you got a good chance of frying the mother board.

Besides If you make a backup of your EEPROM.BIN file as I suggest doing after you first mod your XBOX the restore CD I say to make is the best and safest way to restore or fix your xbox.

Sure if you never did it and don't have the skill or don't want to try the Eeprom method you can do a Hot Swap, BUT I still say for safty reasons and easy of doing, that ppl make the restore CD I tell them to in my tutor at least it will make it easier next time around...

After all were all here to make this a fun "hobby" for everyone!

O.K. i got the thing to hotswap, but when i put the ms dash from the link onto it, now i get an error 16, with no microsoft thingy. However i was still able to hotswap it an am able to open it with Xplorer 360. i think the ms dash that i downloaded was bad, so i downloaded the Shademand softmod thing and it took forever, i got when 23 rar files named Shademand's Ready Made Xbox Softmod.r00 up to .r21 then one with just .rar, i unrar it, but they all unrar the same file Shademand's Ready Made Xbox Softmod.iso, which ones go into the C and E drives, or could you give me another link to get another MS dash? i can't get it from my friend because his xbox is modded and he deleted the MS dash. I also heard that you have to burn the .iso onto a CD then put it into your computer to access the files on it. can i just use the standard windows operation to burn this?thanks for trying to help me out man. i really appreicate it.

you really need Shademand's Ready Made Xbox Softmod.iso 325MB. So try to download it or get a working ms dash from your friends.

Unrar softmod file you will have Shademand.r00 up to Shademand.r21. Then unrar Shademand.r00, you will have Shademand.iso then open it with iso software. You will see C and E folder. Then follow my instruction.

Otherwise, you can't fix your xbox.

yo return....lets say that i followed everything to the "T" but forgot to reconnect the ide from xbox back to hdd.......okay i still recieve error....so i follow directions once again and this time i reconnect ide.....being that i forgot to reconnect the first time is my xbox no good......or could i install a larger hdd being that i backed up the hdd before hand...............Thx....................

can someone help me ive got error 16,had 13 cant read any games an d have evox.I cant get the microsoft logo either.

You forgot to reconnect xbox hdd back to xbox, this may make the xbox hdd stays unlock. If the hdd is unlock you will have error 5.

If not, then the hdd is still ok. Just do hotswap again.

You can do hotswap anyway. Remember to disconnect IDE cable from xbox hdd just before it goes to error 16. Also use the Shamand softmod file 325MB.

did you try to do hotswap again? can you see partition0-4 on xplorer360?
If yes, then use the softmod file 325MB to fix your xbox.

When you turn on xbox and see microsoft logo appear, that time the hdd is unlock 100%.

In your case, you wont able to see microsoft logo. So I'm not sure when the hdd is unlock. That is why I said the hotswap may not work. But in most of cases, the hdd is unlock before xbox goes to service screen and error code or hang.

That is why I said on the tut "disconnect IDE cable from xbox hdd just before xbox goes to service screen and error code or hang."

Then continue boot up PC. Open xplorer360 and try to read the xbox hdd.

YOu have to do hotswap like 3 times (for newbie) to get it work.


About shamand softmod file 325 mb, it is the complete working softmod file on C and E drive.

Hi there, trying to hot swap and even if i push the pause or the break key ( on keyboard as f10 and f11) i can't stop booting. am i pushing the right ones? have tried both alone and together but with no luck...

No your you are pushing the worng key, you need to push the key lable pause/brake.

thats just it, the only place it says pause/break on the keyboard is on the f10 & f11 keys. is there another way to stop it? cheers.

The type of key board you have, I couldn't tell you how, the pause/break key is the same key on the key board, the only thing I can tell you is to go to you local computer repair store and ask or maybe some one els can help.

Pause/break key is next to PrintScreen and Scroll Lock key.

if you cant stop PC booting, so just let it boots to windows. Then do hotswap. After connect xbox's hdd to pc, on PC goto Manager and Scan for xbox hdd. Make sure that you see xbox hdd in there. Then open xplorer360 and try to read the xbox's hdd.

Ive got error 16 from moving evox dash under the skins folder. now my xbox is broke . already tried unlockin from the xbox by pulling the ide cable at big x ,wont work my questoin to u is can i use that premade softmod thing u were talkin about by ftping without a mod chip? plez reply quck need to know.

just redo the game exploit and reinstall the mod to the xbox, if it will boot the game cd that is...

Then, if or after you get it working again, make you a backup/restore CD like I show in my tutor... it will save you alot of headache later if this happens again.

the xbox wont read anything will the FTP thing work?

yeah i did but it wont unlock hd and it says my hd isnt locabele.and it is cuz i used to play xbox on it.thanx for askin though . will the FTP work or not?and i cant get to dashboard.

Can you FTP at all, if so you should be able to move files to and from your Xbox, let me ask you one more question, did you try hot swap using explorer 360, that may work because I fix my Xbox with an error 13 using explorer 360.
