Hmmm my router will not let me forward those ports to BOTH PS3s
It will only let me assign them to 192.168.1.200 OR 192.168.1.205 (my current static IPs for both PS3s)
I assigned both an IP address no problem, as they already had their own.
I looked for an "add a service" option like you suggested, but could not find one. Could it be called something else?
My "firewall" section in the router just allows me to enable or disable it, there is no option that I can see for an "allow inbound" section
I am using a Linksys Compact WRT54GC version 2.0 with the latest firmware from the linksys website v1.01.5 from the download section.
My playstations access the internet fine and plays game online fine.
It is only when I try to play Modern Warfare 2 on BOTH at the same time that the problems start. From browsing the internet it seems like a common problem people are having.
The only solution I have seen online that someone got it to work was have one on wireless and one on wired connection. I just tried that and still the 2nd one will not hook up to online mode.
PS3 will end up in the garden soon :)

Afraid not. No option for IP range, only port range.
I'd love to know if there is another router out there that will allow Modern Warfare 2 to run on two PS3's at same time.
I am reluctant to buy a new router since this is the only online game that will not work with both running at same time. Seems like an awful lot of money to spend just to get 1 game to work.
Also, is there any router out there that will allow you to put 2 IP addresses into a DMZ. WRT54GC from linksys only lets you assign 1 IP address to DMZ.

You can only Port Forward One device per Port #. The idea behind port forwarding is telling your router that any time information comes in on a specific port, it is to automatically be sent to a specific IP address. This cuts down on information transfer time because the router does not have to connect to every device on your network and ask if this information should be sent to them. Thus, only one device (PS3) per Port Forward range. CODMW 1 and 2 requires information to be sent over the above listed Ports. If you lock down one PS3 to those ports, the other one will not have access to thoes ports. If you don’t Port Forward either PS3, both will have access to the necessary ports but will probably not have a NAT Type 2 connection. The only way that I know of getting around this is to get a second router. You would have to go from your Modem and split to two different routers. In each router, you could port forward a PS3. Sucks don’t it. Btw, this is not a PS3 thing. Common problem.

I take it replacing my wireless router with a wired unmanaged D-link switch will solve this problem too?
Since it auto forwards everything and no firewalls etc.

OK here goes....
A few months ago I tried port forwarding but was still unable to join multiplayer rooms, it would only allow me to create rooms and once more than 2 or 3 people joined, I would get a message saying that I was disconnected from the game session. I set my PS3 under a DMZ and everything worked fine. I just recently rearranged the furniture so I had to unplug everything and plug it all back in. I checked the settings and everything was the same so I assumed everything would be ok. I logged in to play GTA 4 and it said I needed a PS3 update so I downloaded it. Now I am having the same problem as before where I can't join any multiplayer rooms. I set up the DMZ again and reset everything and it is still not working.

Try resetting your ps3 internet settings to AUTOMATIC ...do not use a static IP. If you are in NAT2 that should work. See if that works. :)

Now every few tries it will put me into a room with 3 or less people. But it is still mostly having me set up a new room, giving me the disconnected from game session error, or saying that the connection to one or more players have been lost.

If you are in a DMZ and ps3 shows Nat 2 you shouldn't have a problem. Is it possible someone else with a gaming system is using your router? Do you live in an apt. condo etc? If not maybe your router is not a good gaming router. Try a base linsys wrt54gv2 very cheap and works well. ~supertape

I have exhaustively tested everything.
The only way to play 2 copies of Modern Warfare 2 online TOGETHER in the same household is through 2 different broadband suppliers.
But to quote a previous post "Sucks Eh"
WB8383: Supertape is correct, check if anyone else in your household using gaming system as it can really screw you up, I have only noticed this personally though when using the same game. What I havent tested myself I have thoroughly researched.
My static IP address worked best when used outside the routers DHCP range of 1~149
So set my PS3 to:
IP: 192.168.1.200
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.1.1 (I noticed you have 192.168.2.1 - are you using more than 1 router?)
DNS1: 4.2.2.2 (my network provider is 194.168.4.100)
DNS2: 4.2.2.3 (my network provider is 194.168.8.100)
You could try both of the above settings.
Also, if you are the only gaming console connected in your household and the AUTOMATIC DETECT isnt working, then you have not connected your system cables properly.

Utella, sorry for the extremely late reply. Good try with the switch. Unfortunately modern day switches try to act like a router, they just don’t do a good job at it. An old Hub (don’t think they are even made anymore) acts as a repeater and blast every device on your network with any info that is coming or going.
It would be an expensive attempt, Go from Modem > Switch. From Switch > Two Routers. Port forward each router to a different PS3. I have not tried this and don’t intend to as I don’t have two PS3’s. I feel your pain and I would feel worse if you tried this and it did not work.

This is from another forum... maybe it will help?
(I have two PS3 systems connected to an internet modem on separate TV's. One system is wireless and one is not. You need to have a Call of Duty Mod/warfare 2 game for each system, enable UPnp on your modem and ensure both systems have different IP's. Once that's configured both PS3's have to go online at the same time; otherwise, the connection will be inconsistant or lost, at least with my systems. All other settings on my modem are default)

supertape, I was considering logging both on at the same time, but ran it through my head and thought it silly, now it doesn't seem so silly.
I did try 1 wired and 1 wireless before, with one in a DMZ.
I have managed to play both Modern Warfare 2 online ONCE, but have no idea how I did it since no configuation seems to work and ive tested a lot.
It is VERY possible that the one time it did work I connected both online at the same time and just did not realise it.
I will test this at some point this week.

Bad programming from Infinity Ward and whoever else if responsible for online play in Modern Warfare 2.
My wife and I are both online playing M.A.G. with ZERO problems.
Same team.
Same clan.
Same game.
Very slick as I knew it would be from SONY.
I see much of Planetside (my fav game of all time) in MAG
Anyway, it was a fun journey. Thanks for all your input everyone.

when i go to the router DMZ page I have source & destination...no host. I assume source is = to host? It wants a range. Do i do anything with the destination? It errors "destination ip address is incorrect" Under dest. i have ip add. or mac add. which one? The Ip only allows me to change the last value which is default at 0. If i change it it errors "you cant use the routers ip, network, or broadcast address" What gives? just changing settings on ps3 brought me from 3MBps to 8MBps

ok so i'm getting ready to give up, I have a linksys WRT310N router, its a wired connection. I did everything to put it in the DMZ, can't count how many times i've checked to make sure i did everthing right. I also set the primary and secondary DNS as 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3. I have the UPnP disabled on both the ps3 and computer. and it says its NAT type 2. But I still get the error 8002a548 saying i've got disconnected from the playstation network. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated

Ok, followed the tutorial to the tee but when I get to the DMZ host part on my router i get this message and I have no idea what to do.
DMZ Hosting is not available while configured for Routed IP WAN (Routed Bridge).
I have 1 Verizon modem/router combo that connects us to the internet. Any suggestions?

Hey guys, I am having a little problem with this. When I put my ps3 in DMZ the regular inter net doesn't work (desktop, laptop etc.) But when I take the DMZ off the regular internet works but the ps3 doesn't. I am using a Linksys wireless router. If some one could help that would be great!
