The 8800GTS is only a bit below the 8800GTX. So I'd say you'll have no problem on Ultra.

I usually max out the settings on all games if I can, but with Quake 4 it doesn't bother me that it's only on high, because I can't tell the difference.

Has anybody noticed a large drop in core 2 duo prices, or am I just late in spotting it? I looked a couple of days ago and spotted an E6750 for almost the same price I paid for my E4300!

lol, it happened long time ago, you could get a Q6600 for the price of E6600.
OK guys the new 8800GT 512MB(G92) rocks! it outperforms 8800GTS 640MB (G80), i wonder if it will outperform the new GTS 112 Stream Processors?

I doubt that the GeForce 8 series will be replaced so soon. They have yet to release a game that these cards won't handle at max settings and resolution (plus eye candy.) But I bet that the G9x core will end up as our 8900GTX.
*EDIT*
Looking at an 8800GT review now... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even though I like having a high-end build, I feel really stupid now for paying $600 for my 8800GTX... oh well :P

Check out the graph...
Doesn't exactly bring the cards to their knees, does it? The 8800GTS 320MB will run it buttery smooth at 1280 x 1024(from looking at 1600 x 1200 performance). And also from looking at performance, I think the 8600GTS would handle it well at 1280 x 1024 at medium detail.
I will be running at 1600 x 1200(maybe 1920 x 1200.) I'm also planning on SLi when I get Crysis(several months from now). SLi will handle it at least 1.5x as well, hopefully.
It does seem to scale well. Rumor is, low detail in the game is the same as cranked detail in FarCry. So, in the end, even the guys barely able to get it smooth in 800 x 600 at lowest details(the GeForce 6800 crowd) will get a decent looking game.

the graph backs my point... you buy a £400 gpu and you cant run a posible GOTY at a good resolution with full eye candy... its just not good enough that it dont go the magic 60fps for four hundred GBP. just like when farcry came out

No nothing will change, it's just a move my Nvidia to support PCI-E 2 and make people try to move to that.
