Can I break into someone's router (steal a WPA code) by connecting via LAN?

"X" has a wireless network, and his wireless has WPA-PSK security.

He dares "Y" to connect to it wirelessly, but also gives him permission to connect to his router using ethernet.

Is there any way that "Y" can get the WPA code of "X"'s network, if he is connected to the router using a CAT5E cable

This is a work of pure fiction, any relation to anyone/thing real is purely co-incidental. :P

So can it be done???
Just wondering, thanks

to be able to access the configurations of the wireless router you will need the user name and password to access the configurations which hold the security code.

Good Luck ;P

So "Y" needs a password to get a password :P

That Blows

Thanks anyway, guess "X" wins

I don't think it supports my wireless card.
Does anyone know of a program of this nature, that is compatible with Windows and a intel wireless card.

{looking at you - geestar20 :P}

hehehehehe.. it's the big secret ;)

I attack these using a packet sniffer and patience. Sooner or later a device will try to connect and keys will be passed.. the trick is catching them... XD

Have you thought about your first bit of info? He is connected by a cable, and probably has the wireless bit turned off.

A wireless card should show the available networks.. from there it's a matter of deciding which one is the target.. BEWARE.. what you are attempting is illegal.. if you hack the wrong network and get caught you can face some serious trouble.

There are more clues in here than it may at first seem.

(I could tell you exactly how to attack it, but I don't have the first idea who you are or your real motives for getting this information.. or the uses it will be put to... trust is a funny thing.. ask this on the 2600 forums and see)

He has a router that is wireless but also allows you to connect via ethernet

I get what you mean about the trust issues, no worries.

It was a dare, but since its illegal I might as well forget about it (No biggie)

Thanks for your help
