Last night my vista machine did its auto update thing and now is stuck in a continuous loop of:

    boots fine
Screen: Configuring updates: Stage 3 of 3-0% complete. Please do not turn off your computer.
    Screen: Logging off
    Screen: Shutting down
Then it re-boots and does it all over again.

I do have a start-up disc that Gateway prompted me to create, however it is not recognized during the boot process. I have a Bitdefender disc that it boots from, but it may as well be written in a foreign language cause it doesn't help ME at all.

I would say I have barely above average skills.

Please if anyone can help that would be great.

    Thank You!!!!

did you try running it in safe mode. if you can boot it to safe mode try removing recent updates and reinstall them again. instructions for getting into safe mode:
power up your computer and start tapping f8. then highlight safe mode and hit enter. log in as administrator.
    instructions for removing updates:
go to control panel-->add remove software-->view installed updates.
right click on recent update and click uninstall. i think it goes that way. my vista is Croatian
