Error message no media inserted when trying to burn

Trying to burn for the first time and using CD Burner XP Pro and keep getting an error message saying no media inserted in the drive, please insert a recordable media and try again. I have inserted a dvd -R disc and this message keeps coming up, therefore I cannot burn, can anyone help me, thanks?

 

A CD burner won't burn a DVD. You need a DVD burner.

 

Thanks! I was about to try ImgBurn, would you recommend this? I have downloaded a film from Limewire and cannot seem to tsfr it and am now obsessed! Do I need to convert the film 1st before downloading?

 

Thanks for that. I have downloaded it from Limewire- I am now trying to convert it using Avi2dvd, which I think I am doing right, then plan to use Imgburn to burn onto disc...am I on the right track?

Lol. I did not know that, hence my initial response. Hehe. Oops.

 

I have tried to burn using Imgburn but keep getting a message saying Device Not Ready ( Medium not present)- yet I have a black DVD -R disc in my drive, brand new. Any help appreciated.
