OK, so I have a HP Deskjet D4260 as my printer and I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 32-bit. I tried connecting it to my computer and have it installed but it didn't. Could someone please?

I also have just a general question too. What is the difference between Window's .DLLs and .Kexts because to me they seem very similar.

Plug in your Printer to your USB
Now, type this into your Browser: http://localhost:631/admin
Under the Printer Tab, you should see your Printer.
Choose your Printer and then it will ask you again and it will be highlighted.
Choose OK and you will be asked for your User Name and Password.
Type that in and your all set......

    Good luck....

Drivers always look similar.. because they are usually the same code with a few changes.

So then what is the big deal with Window's having "Dll hell" if all the OS's have some type of drivers. Is it because it can be accessed by the normal user in windows?

No.. it's because M$ have used the same dll names with different functions across "upgrades" and then there is that nightmare of a registry...............

I don't want to discuss that load of proprietary crap.
