Hey there, I am looking for some insight on a class project for my A+ Software class. I am looking in the area of dual boot, but using WinXP and Win98. The reason I chose Win98 is because I was thinking of installing it on my USB flash drive, and seeing if I can boot off of it. It is formatted in FAT16, and from looking in my BIOS I can see something that looks like I would be able to boot off a USB. this is what I see when I go into boot priority menu. Under the HDD Group Boot Priority I see two items 1. 3rd Master : Maxtor 6L100M0 ( would think this is my hard drive), and 2. USB-HDD0: USB Flash Memory PMAP (is this my usb Flash drive?). Now the Flash stick I have is a PNY 2g stick, and seeing the required storage space for a win 98 OS is like arround 500mb for a FAT16 drive. Now am I overlooking anything? Do I have to do anything with the Boot.ini file, or would this idea even work? Im not looking to do this long term this is just to do as a project then be done with, so any help would be extremely helpfull.

make certain the usb is the 2nd boot drive after the rom drive. will most likely have to tell win98 when installing it to install to the usb drive & not to the hard drive.

Ok cool, but you think it would be possible to install it onto the usb drive, and possibly be able to choose either the usb (win98) or hard drive (winxp) as boot options, and be able to get to the win98 desktop? That is all I want to make sure before I go out and get a copy of Win98. I think I have it set to 1.CD drive, then I have 2.HDD drive. I have floppy dissabled because I don't have one installed. Thanks again on your speedy reply to my post.
