Computer is freezing, internet explorer gets redirected away from spyware, adware, malware sites

Please help. I've been trying since Friday the 12th to fix my computer. When booting pc and choose between users (Joe) freezes immediately (wallpaper changed to white/text). User (Shelley) sometimes can execute, but freezes too. I have ran Trend Micro PC cillian, nothing found. Spy bot finds "WildTangent", but cannot remove it, asks to remove it on restart. Tried to install Norton Antivirus 2008, but cannot run install program from disk. Also, on Internet Explorer cannot go to any site to download for example "ComboFix". IE directed to a completely different site. Tried to download, and/or change name HijackThis and cannot download. Please help. Thanks

Finally I was able to install Norton Antivirus 2008. Norton found that "bleeping" trojan. Thought I would reply before I interupted anyone's time.
