I need help in finding and reinstalling a specific desktop icon that is no longer there, in this case for WINDOWS EXPLORER. I do not find it in the all programs list unless it is buried under anothe name or choice. I did a search and found programs that allow to change the appearence of an icon, or download different ones, but not how to recover a missing one. Also can anyone tell me why some programs will load but NOT leave an icon behind as part of the downloading process> Im particular WMP"CLLASIC" did not leave one. It did leave two folders on one of the so called "WHITE" pages, one being the set up folder and the other being a representation of the player. It was by accident that I found I could use the player picture to drag the icon to the desktop. I found the same to be true on my WINDPWS 98 tower as well that uses "ZIP" folders to accomplish the same task. Is that the only way to find the appropriate icon when there is none? Any other way to search for it WITHOUT having to download yet another tool? I need help! I am a novice and these little glitches are annoying especialy since I have no clue as to what to do.

Maybe this site will help you.
    http://www.entity.cc/how-to-icons.php#change

In most cases what you do is right click the item that you want to change the icon to. Then select "Properties". You will see a button that says, "Change Icon". select that and you will be given certain choices in a location.

The other thing to do is to run a search for ".ico" without the quotes of course, and it should list all of you icons that are found on the computer. You must remember that different icons are located in different places.

Also you mentioned Windows Explorer. Are you sure that is the icon you need to replace? Most novice computer users are not familiar with Windows Explorer. Maybe you mean Internet Explorer.

Also, there is not a reason to drag and drop to get an icon on the desktop. Right click the item you want and then select send to desktop and it will create a shortcut for you.

You should not need a tool to do anything that you are doing. I'm just wondering what you did to lose the .ico file that was attached to you program!!
