what is video/x-video and will it play in media player? play/review plays sound only in ares? can't help being stupid!

You can't play them on your player unless your DVD player is Divx/Xvid enabled(doubtful). Your only option is to convert the Xvid to SVCD or VCD, assuming your DVD player even plays those types of discs. Check your manual or do a Google search on the model number to check its features.
