So I'm not sure if this has been posted before, did a quick search and didn't see it. Aparrantly this tool lets you get a hitachi in Mode B without Slax. It looks sweet and should make flashing it easy. Hope this helps:

I possibly have a box coming in this weekend that is supposed to be a hitachi. So if it is, I will try it out and see if it works. I also posted this article, and I think the very next day an update was made to the program.

I just looked, and here is another article talking about the update. The forum over there also was saying that this works great with the 6421.

So now, it looks like this could work

I'm trying to understand completly how it works. It seems as if you can plug the sata cord into your via6421 card, the program will then send the signal to the drive and put it into mode b. However, I thought I read somewhere you you needed a sata to ata cord. (Not sure where I read it, I am only skimming through it all right now). But it looks fairly simple. Hopefully, just experimenting with the sata cord into the 6421 and then it would hopefully work.

Let me know if you try it or get it.

If you sent it back to M$ then sorry, but your SCREWED. They will give you a Lite-On drive that isnt flashable @ the moment. The best bet to do was buy a flashable drive if you got to replace the drive or 3ROD is fix it yourself or find someone that can do it.

Hope you didnt send it back to M$. My opinion is to sell the box and buy one w/a drive you can flash, but that if you sent it back to M$. As I now I havent herd of the new drive been hacked yet.

No, I do firmware flashing for people in DC. The box was coming in from someone who wanted me to flash their box. So no, it wasn't from M$, and yes, trust me, I do understand most come with lite-ons now. I've been around here for a while.

Anyways, the box did come in, but it was a benq, the guy told me wrong. So I didn't get to test it. Anyone else really get to try it out?
