Video Playback thru Powerpoint on CD

not sure if this is the right thread for this but here is my question:

I am creating powerpoint presentations on cd and they all incorporate videos. In the past, i've used VCD MPGs but have noticed that there is a pretty big lag before it actually starts playing and kind of kills the promotion. Is there a better video type to use out there that would run faster but still have a good quality res to it? these are only 360x240 files but still seem to lag... thanks
