I've been reading up on how PIO causes burn underrun errors with just about any program. In attempt to fix this problem, I unintalled the IDE things, but when I uninstall the Primary IDE Channel, my computer will not boot up unless I select use last good configuration. This obviously replaces the primary IDE and the PIO mode as well. Am I missing something, or does my computer just suck? The Secondary IDE uninstalls and reinstalls fine, but that doesnt fix the underruns.

Right click My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>Click + beside IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers>highlight Primary IDE controller>Advanced settings tab folder>transfer mode>enable DMA if available. Repeat the above instructions for Secondary IDE controller> reboot your pc and check your dma settings m8.

I've had DMA if available, but the transfer mode is still PIO. The information is as follows

    [Primary IDE Channel]

    Device 0
Device Type: Auto Detection (greyed out)
    Transfer Mode: DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode: PIO Mode (uneditable)

    Device 1
    Device Type: Auto Detection
    Transfer Mode: DMA if available
    Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable

Secondary IDE Channel does not have advanced settings. Remember, I tired to uninstall the Primary, but the computer won't boot up after that unless I restore it.

I fixed the problem by using a new method not discussed in the other threads! Apparently, although the computer cannot reboot if I uninstall the primary IDE, it can update the IDE. By doing this, the advanced tab disappeared completely, but the cds burn wonderfully! I know, I have a f*-*ed up computer.
