Hi, I've just bought a Box PVR and can't get the channels to clear, even though i've got Autoupdate switched on. It looks as if i can't save the correct Provider ID, because whe i go back to look at the CAS system again I notice that the Provider ID is the original one. Is this the problem or is it something else. Can anyone help. thanks John
Have you installed firmware on to the box, they are usually supplied with FTA firmware for obvious reasons. If you put a search in at the top you will find numerous threads dealing with The Box PVR, for instance >>>>>>>>>> http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/705726#4294086 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/587189 You will get a better response.
Hi You may need to load the latest F/W (Firm Ware) v4.506 Oct it is in the 'eko.4shared' link below, To find your present Software version press Menu/System Setup/System Information. Then first make sure you are plugged into the correct socket at the back (one of the four together) marked up. NOT the antenna socket. The manual is wrong. Before doing a scan Goto Menu / Installation and make sure the (Cable Network Option) top item is set to your local provider if not correct it by using the right / Left arrow keys on your remote, then move down to Autoscan and wait till it has finished scanning. If channels are not clearing after a scan goto Menu / System Setup / Press OK when the Parental Control line in yellow is highlighted then press i then 2007, this should take you the the Cas System Menu. (You may need try this a few times to get your key press timing correct on the remote control but this will get you into the Cas Syatem Menu) If you can't get onto the Cas System Menu screen then you are doing something wrong so keep trying it. When you are on the Cas Menu Screen and with Nagravision 1,11 highlighted in Yellow Press OK, On the Provider ID Line select the same provider as earlier by using the left/right arrow buttons on remote then press the LAST (load default) button on your remote, then the OK button to (Store) wait for it to save then press exit, then make sure Autoupdate option is On (Bottom Item in Cas System Menu.) This is the equiv of the EMU, Exit out, Goto a scrambled channel and wait for update. It is normal, the provider always reverts back. Goto the TheBox PVR Folder for F/W and Documentation Folder for How too's http://eko.4shared.com/ jbvid
Thanks for your help Jaici and JBvid. I've checked that i'm using the correct firmware and I've just gone through the CAS sequence exactly as you described, but no joy with the scrambled channels. Everything else works fine. I can record and pause, watch another channel while recording, etc. I could try loading the firmware again from scratch, but can't seem to get the box to accept another download. Can you suggest anything else? Thanks again John
Hi All I can suggest is you re-read and try again, I have posted this info many times onsite and it usually gets done satifactory by all in the end. Try following it slowly, print it out and read it a few more times. A very important piece of the info is : When you are on the Cas Menu Screen and with Nagravision 1,11 highlighted in Yellow Press OK, On the Provider ID Line select the same provider as earlier by using the left/right arrow buttons, then on the remote control press the LAST (load default) button on your remote, then the OK button to (Store)it wait for it to save then press exit, then make sure Autoupdate option is On (Bottom Item in Cas System Menu.) One final thing is to switch the Box off, then switch it off at the back power switch for a minute then back on. jbvid
Hi It's interesting that you've posted this a number of times because it indicates that i'm doing something wrong, whereas i thought something more fundamental was wrong. I've tried it a hundred times now and am getting very frustrated. I've noticed my local provider has two code settings 5 A 1.... and 5 E 1.... I've tried saving both of these a number of times with no joy. I've had a BOX for a while now and always sorted things out myself, but this PVR has me stumped. Thanks again. John
Hi Ignore what codes you see as they are totally irrelevant as the box AU's. Auto Updates them You can have a go at this version I posted for someone else, You must be missing something, try a step by step approach starting with your present installed F/W check Hi Print this out, read it at least A FEW times before continuing. You can forget about EMU codes with the SV PVR it AU's (Auto Updates). This is an updated version. First, Very Important You may need to load the latest F/W (Firm Ware)v4.506 Oct it is in the 'eko.4shared' link below. To find your present Software version press Menu/System Setup/System Information. If it is not v4.506 goto the link at the end of this post, download and install it before continuing. SECOND Then make sure you are plugged into the correct socket at the back (one of the four together) marked up. NOT the antenna socket. The manual is wrong. THIRD Before doing a scan Goto Menu / Installation and make sure the (Cable Network Option) top item is set to your local provider if not correct it by using the right / Left arrow keys on your remote, then move down to Autoscan and wait till it has finished scanning. Fourth If channels are not clearing after a scan goto Menu / System Setup / (Press OK) when the Parental Control line in yellow is highlighted then press i then 2007, this should take you the the Cas System Menu. (You may need try this a few times to get your key press timing correct on the remote control but this will get you into the Cas Syatem Menu) If you can't get onto the Cas System Menu screen then you are doing something wrong so re-read it and keep trying. Fifth When you are on the Cas Menu Screen and with Nagravision 1,11 highlighted in Yellow Press OK, On the Provider ID Line select the same provider as earlier by using the left/right arrow buttons on remote then press the LAST (load default) button on your remote, then the OK button to (Store) wait for it to save then press exit, then make sure Autoupdate option is On (Bottom Item in Cas System Menu.) This is the equiv of the EMU, Exit out, Goto a scrambled channel and wait for update. Goto the TheBox PVR Folder for F/W and Documentation Folder for How too's http://eko.4shared.com/ jbvid
Hi, Thanks for your patience. I can honestly say i've checked that I've got the right version loaded and i'm doing everything exactly as described, without success. The only thing different is that I have to press OK when at Parental control and then 'I' then'2007' to get to the Nagravision option. I don't know if this is significant? I've also checked that i'm putting the input cable into the top right of the group of four when viewed from the rear. John
Hi Pressing OK is correct as I quoted in 'Fourth' and you are doing it correctly otherwise no entry into Cas menu. The only part to re check and try again is the 'Fifth' also a power off/unplug then replug back in at the end of the fifth would be my final suggestion. If you have double checked its 'v4.506 Oct' F/W than you are the only one in over a year who hasn't had success with this procedure. jbvid
Thanks again, I'm turning the power off as suggested. The other odd thing is that nearly all the programs are scrambled or bad channel, yet a channel that is normally scrambled isn't. I'm wondering if its just that this box requires a better signal. I've tried it on the line that works ok currently with a Box Super and it's still the same.
Thats it then, you seem to have found your problem, do you have a local friend / relation or neighbor to try your box on, as it looks very much like a signal problem rather than an unscrambling problem. I presume you have temporary removed any splitters in you cable line setup to help increase signal strength to the box? jbvid
The odd thing is that I'm using it where the cable first comes into the house. My other box works beyond a long cable run, which is split, but still works. It could be that this product requires a stronger signal than a Box Super, or it could be a fault on this box. But, you're right, I'll have to try it elsewhere before I know. Thanks again for your help John
Hi, Just for completion. I've had the cable engineer out, who sorted some problems i had with the modem and balanced the network. My laptop works much better, but the problem remains with the PVR. I've also tried it elsewhere with the same result. So, it looks as if I now need to return it and go through all the hassle of getting it replaced.
Hi Well, thanks for getting back to me with your finalisation, it has been a troublesome one this has. I would certainly think your supplier should be helpful and understanding especially after all the trials done to try and find the cure. Would be interested in his response to the fault if one arrives. jbvid
