my ipod touch was randomly put into recovery mode when i started a couple days ago. so i said whatever ill just restore, but now itunes doesnt recognize my ipod. heres a list of what i have tried:
    - reinstalled itunes 8
    - downgraded to itunes 7.7
    - restarted ipod service and apple mobile service in computer>manage>services
    - called apple "please send ipod for inspection" i know that my computer is the problem not the ipod
    - tried a whole bunch of stuff in the device manager that i cant even remember anymore

ill take it you are on a pc, try to a hard boot on the touch by holding the home and the sleep button on top for a few seconds until the ipod turns off, then connect it to itunes, also if is not recognize, go on your device manager on windows and see if you see a yellow exclamation sign next to the ipod, if you do, right click it and choose uninstall. once done that, disconnect the ipod and connect it again, windows will reinstall the drivers for it. try that Good luck, other wise go to the nearest apple store and see if they can help you.
