Half life 2 crash on startup

    yes my half life 2 crashes on start up even after I reinstalled it and put it in window mode which is what most people say should work for vista. help please

    Not too sure why it's crashing, but it might be that you computer can't cope with both vista and HL2 at the same time.

    How much RAM do you have???

    Try turning off some visual effects and then playing it

    i have 1.3 gigs of ram thats more then enough i think because i just ran it on this site can you run it and it says its to the maximum requirements

    Yea, but that doesn't take into account that vista can use up to a gig of RAM, in which case you would only have 300mb left to play the game with.
    (not very likely though)

    Try turning off visual effects like aero interface, and then try

    Change your theme to vista basic, looks bad but you can change back once your done playing, if the game works

    yeah still no luck it just freezes at the blurred start up screan when i put it on clasic theme or basic and turn evrything off

    Maybe it's a problem with the installation???
    Not too sure

    What version of the game do you have, is it one from steam, did u purchase it as a hard copy, or get it from a torrent

    My friend gave me a steamless one with CSS that he got from a torrent, and that works perfectly on vista

    yeah its steamless from a torrent its a good torrent to because everyone else seems to run it fine.

    When you run the installation, does it install using a command prompt window, if so it's the same as mine.

    Mine was crashing when I installed it to a different directory, but when I installed it to the default directory, mentioned in the readme and command prompt window before the installation started, and now it works fine
