Can someone please guide me to a simple answer.

"Does the PS3 plays media files stored on internal harddisk or via DLNA server (TwonkyVision no transcoding) which have DTS(5.1) as the audio codec. I am asking about original DTS not its new variants such as hd.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">DTS-HD and so on."
The PS3 might will play DTS audio tracks in movies on DVD (i have'nt tried DVD/BD with DTS/Dolby Audio Tracks and all their HD variants as well) . I have the BluRay and HD-DVD rips lying on my harddisk with AVC/H264 Video and DTS Audio and when I play them via PS3 all I can see is the video image on the LCD TV and no sound.

I have the PS3 connected to Yamaha YHT-185 5.1 Home Theatre system via Optical Cable (S/PDIF). This amplifier can handle and decode DTS audio l as written on it and in the manuals. I have selected the Linear PCM as the sound output option in PS3 audio settings. Do i need to set any other specific options in it.

I guess PS3 is not sending the sound data to the amplifier, since there is no signal on amplifier front panel, and when on the TV I press the movie info button ( in PS3 media player), I can only see the info about the Video Stream as AVC but no info about the Audio Steram is shown.

Thanks in advance for a clarifying response.

i found that when i converted an mkv file with tsmuxer i saw the picture but no sound. then found that the mkv contained a dts audio stream and it appears no dts support for ps3 yet. its kinda dumb why they make the ps3 so versitile but miss big things... like dts support, network speeds that can stream large hd files. ahhhhhhh but i dont know if i helped but i fould that i didnt have dts support

soon to be ps3 60 gig for sale after i effing fix it... I have bad luck with Ps3...

The PS3 does support DTS, just not in the m2ts container... or any container for that matter. In order to fully enjoy your movies with DTS the must be in either BD or DVD format.

The PS3 supports all forms of DTS.

EDIT: I can stream large HD files (BD rips) with no problems with a regular wired network (10/100 mb/s), you just need a somewhat powerful PC that can handle it. The device that sends the information is just as important as the system that transports it, as well as the system that receives it.

ohhh i understand about the dts now. thanks for clearing that up for everyone. but i can do hard wried connections fine if the file is setup right. i meant that its kinda a pain to do wireless connections and hd. but thats all..

The PS3 supports all forms of DTS.
