Hi guy's, I havn't got a starview 4 yet or for that matter I havn't even owned a dvd recorder lol so this might be a stupid question to some but I need to know it. What I want to know is, if I purchased a starview 4 or other dvd recorder and recored some tv to an external HD, what type of file does it save it too ? I know what ripping dvd's ect it rip's it to video files, but I'm wondering if it's the same with a video recorder. I want to know as to burn it to dvd or transfer it to my pc. I'm considering getting a starview4 and I have multiple high storage HD's around the house but I'd like to find this out first. Cheers guy's
Its uses a TS format, but if you look in Eamos, (The Box Super USB Folder), you will see some software to allow you transfer and view recordings on your PC.
Sc0user, can i ask if there is any software to go from an AVI file to the TS format supported by this box ?? I have a lot of films i'd like to put on my HDD and then playback through this unit ? cheers for the help H
Hi helpallus, Thats exactly what im looking for. i have loads of avi's on my HDD, can't believe the box 4 can't play them. i can view them no problem but they just don't play. Any help would be much appreciated.
Its not really a question regards the box itself. Its more to do with converting avi files to mpeg2 and as I havent tried this I do not know. There are converters that will do the job. I am presuming they do not have to convert to .ts as you only require mpeg2 from PC to box. The files in Eamos as you know convert the .ts mpegs files to view on your PC. As I said it is not really a box question it a file conversion question. I am only surmising and google is your friend on this one. This very forum may contain the info required if asked in the correct section. Sorry but thats all I have on the info you require.
Hi Sc0user, Thanks for that. I think i will convert from avi to ts and see how it goes. If thats fine then all i have to do is get all my movies etc in the ts format and then I can play them from my HHD through the box. I will have a go later and let you know the outcome. thanks for the reply.
Cheers but I am not sure wheter you even need to go as far as the .ts format, mpeg2 may do. Either way let us know how you get on. Must try it myself at some stage to see the results
Just a quick question, does anyone know if a WD passport drive (one without a power supply) will work with the box 4 to record? Don't want to go and buy one and then find out its not compatable.
