Have you checked the C11 cap first? Where did you get your Jtag kit from?

When you say you checked the caps do you mean you checked the power out from the PSU. Have you used the Jtag before and could you show me a link to it. Is it the one with a DB25 black shell and ribbon cable with no ground clip? Or is it one from Tailormadecircuits?

yes, checked the psu,it's ok,all the capacitors are showing power going through them.can't find the email where i bought the jtag.it is black shell for the parallel port,a Grey ribbon with A-N wrote on it.and a 20 pin holes with a red line indicating where to line it up.i have tried one jtag before with no success.hope this info is helpful. jhaye2x

Have you tried reversing the polarity of the ribbon on the header, i.e swap pin 1 (red line on ribbon) to pin 20. Basically turn the ribbon header upside down? Just twist it around the other way on the SV header.

Are you using SkyMax or Jkeys and have you set your parallel port to an IRQ of 378 and ECP? You can do this in BIOS or Jkeys preferences.

Apologies but heading soon, long drive in the morning ;)

hi sc0user,hope your journey was ok. i tried the jkeys with irq at 378 that was fine.com port was at com 1, as i went into device manager and the com port was set at the correct one.when i tried the jkeys to detect it keeps coming up DEVICE ID 0x00000000 and UNKNOWN DEVICE. when i checked the capacitiors without the jtag in ,there was power going through all of them.but when i put the jtag on only a couple have power.which tells me the jtag draws all or most of the power supply.

Jinterface is for a serial Jtag. In Jkeys perference you must set it to Parallel Port, (that is what you are using), and port settings at 0x378. Also check as I said the polarity of the header.

Your Jtag should have come with instructions. Is this not the case?

Jkeys are the same just different revisions. I presume it a Starview 1 we are talking about? Did it recognise it on Jkeys?

The box must be powered up to be flashed (don't worry about the lack of display or picture)

    Flashing with JKEYS
    -------------------

Run JKEYS and Detect. Should come up as:

    Device ID: 0x1D405041
    Device: STi5518MVB-X

Choose the IRD model as 4900

    Flash would be 29LV160
    Start : 7FE00000
    Bytes 20000

    Go into flash programmer.

Erase chip first by clicking on Erase in the top right

Flash chip with a working TSOP image by clicking on the top-right Program button.

    Flashing with S*YMax UP (Easier!)
    --------------------------------

If you are having problems flashing with JKEYS you can also use S*YUP. This is much easier to use.

    Click on 2mb (0x7FE00000)
    Click Start
    Click Erase
    Click Write

Choose your flash image .. sit back and wait

    Thanks to

    SunRise

SV TSOP Image is here you need winrar or other zip type program to unpack it.

SkyMax is here (just in case). Again its in zip format.

Nearly there. Try it in Win98 mode. But don't write first this time, erase twice, turn off SV after erase each time. Then write without pressing erase.
