I currently have Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2. There were updates waiting to be installed. This turned out be Windows XP SP3 update.I assumed this was going to be a minor update but it seems to have used at least a Gb of space. It got about halfway through installing and then i had second thoughts about updating and cancelled but it seemed to finish anyway(not sure about this though). It's now instructing me to restart to complete the installation.I'm reluctant to do this as i don't know what's going to happen next? I haven't backed up so if Windows is messed up is it going to be possible to retrieve all my files? and what should i do now? I'm hoping this isn't going to be serious problem. What are the chances of restarting as if nothing happened?
i would restart.you can always remove sp3 if you like.i found no problems myself with sp3,although some computers seem to.
2 options would be to do a system restore to before sp3 was loaded or uninstall sp3 in add/remove programs.
Thanks for replying. Those comments would have put my mind at ease but i lost my internet connection for a few days not long after posting I restarted anyway and it seems to have installed.According to the system properties it's now SP 3(fully installed?). Can i trust this installation or would the best thing be to remove it?
