vsfilter and haali splitter

It would appear that haali splitter can handle *or at least control* embedded subtitles just fine, so my question is why does it need vsfilter to work?

i mean the interface in the tray tool looks like it can control them.
but when it loads vsfilter i consequently have two subtitle controllers...

It needs VS filter because it cannot render subtitles. What media player are you using?
